Scholarship
My scholarship examines the intersections of artmaking, identity, education, and social responsibility, with particular attention to how lived experience informs the construction of knowledge and the development of critical social consciousness. Grounded in arts-based research, a/r/tography, and participatory action research, my work explores how collaborative creative processes can challenge assumptions, illuminate inequities, and cultivate empathy, agency, and collective responsibility.
Central to this inquiry is an understanding of artmaking as a form of knowledge production rather than simply a means of representation. Through critical reflection, shared experiences, and participatory practices, I investigate how individuals and communities construct meaning, negotiate identity, question structures of power, and imagine possibilities for social change.
My ongoing Mothering-ArtAdemic scholarship extends these inquiries through feminist explorations of the interconnected identities of mother, artist, and academic. Across successive publications, this research examines identity as an iterative process, continually shaped and reshaped through care, responsibility, disruption, creative practice, and change. This evolving inquiry now extends into questions of vocation, agency, and how our sense of purpose continues to develop and change throughout our lives.
